On Friday August 11th, over a decade and a half of hard work, dedication, commitment and selflessness was rewarded and acknowledged. Our very own President, Byron McCormack, was the recipient of the “Outstanding Volunteer Activity and Community Involvement Award” an honour bestowed by the great City of Toronto. The award was presented by Member of Toronto City Council, Jim Karygiannis.
Byron has worked tirelessly with members of the Scarborough community to ensure that ALL youth have access to playing the beautiful game of soccer, recreationally or competitively.
In his 27 years with the club, Byron has held many roles from Coach, Director, Coordinator and for the last 16 years, President. During his time as a devoted volunteer, Byron has made it a priority to teach and develop young soccer players by providing the highest possible coaching, skill development and positive space for young soccer players to escape some of the challenges that many of them face in our community.
Byron has always and continues to use all of his resources to ensure that our players succeed, and during his time with the club has contributed to many of our players receiving scholarships and achieving professional and international success both inside and outside of the game. Just as important, Byron has helped young people become great citizens through the game of soccer. He has been a role model by instilling hard work, discipline and dedication in our club’s youth.
In this day in age, the passion to give up ones own time to help another willingly is not as prevalent as it once was, yet Byron continues to do so without a second thought or hesitation. Even more impressive, he inspires others to do the same- building a soccer club of coaches and administrators who genuinely care about others. This is the true impact of hard work.
We at the club, would like to say a sincere thank you for all that you have done. We value your efforts and your dedication and can undeniably say you make a difference! Not only to this club and sport, but the entire Scarborough Community.
Well done, Byron!
